Welcome to my Natural Childbirth Blog!
Welcome to my little corner of the web!
My name is April… but these days I’m mostly known as “Momma” to my little girl Lileah.
I am passionate about natural childbirth and I hope to share with you some of the exciting discoveries I have made as a new momma, and as a natural childbirth student and instructor.
My story started three years ago…
My journey into motherhood was the most profound and powerful experience of my life

April pregnant with daughter Lileah
When I got pregnant I felt that as my body was expanding I was growing and evolving too.
My thoughts evolved and so did my emotions, and I felt myself being magically transformed into something completely new. I was becoming a Mom!
The petty things I was worried about at first like feeling fat, not being able to fit into my clothes and not being able to enjoy margaritas out with my girlfriends didn’t seem that important.
What was most important now was my baby. And I realized that if I possessed the ability to carry life inside of me, then I possessed the ability to love and nurture that life too.
I set out to completely transform myself into the best “me” that I could be!
I started by addressing and releasing my negative emotions and preconceptions.
This is important, because I wanted to make sure my baby experienced an environment of love and acceptance even before she was born.
This was not always easy, but I felt that I owed it to my baby and myself to do everything I could to give her the absolute best start in life!
I began to educate myself on how to have a healthy pregnancy and give my baby the best birth possible…

Natural Pregnancy - meditation
In my heart I had always known that I wanted to have a natural childbirth. My Mom had given birth to me and my brother naturally at home, so I knew it could be done.
But, I wasn’t the only one in the equation…
At first Andy was not convinced that a natural home birth would be the safest, most responsible way to have our baby. We both agreed that we would not make a decision until we had found out all of the facts.
So I became a natural childbirth “geek”
I spent long hours at the library reading everything I could about the whole medical vs. natural childbirth debate. I interviewed midwives, doulas and obstetricians and spoke with women I knew who had given birth naturally and in hospitals.
Then I shared my findings with Andy…
And the more we learned the more we both realized that a natural water birth was the best choice for us. So I immersed myself even deeper into learning about natural childbirth, became involved with my local birthing center, and when the time came…
We ended up having the most amazing and perfect birth experience!

April, Andy and Lileah being born
We did it together. Our first act as a family…
Andy, I and our baby… perfectly calm and relaxed…completely loving and trusting… in each other and my body’s natural ability… gave birth to our perfect baby girl!
The whole experience of bringing our child into the world in such a loving way has bonded us together and enriched our lives in a way we could never have imagined.
I knew immediately that I couldn’t keep this a secret!
I felt that this was something incredible that I should share with others…
Giving birth naturally has changed my life in such a big way that I’m now a natural childbirth instructor working in a wonderful birth center in Eugene, Oregon helping other woman and families to have their own wonderful experiences.
I started this blog to share with you what I’ve learned and help you prepare for a wonderful birth of your own
I hope that when the time comes you will be confident and prepared to give birth naturally. Your fears and questions will have been answered, and you will be able to freely give yourself and your baby the gift of a beautiful, peaceful and loving birth.

Hi my name is jolene, i 2 am looking to have my baby at home, but i live in Canada, and they really dont like to do 2 many home births. They say because i have had six kids that it could be risky. So i have not found a midwife yet. If you have any more info anything at all more you can share with me, i would be glad to listen and take in any advise you can give. Thank you so much for your Blog and your Video, it really warmed my heart!!!!=0)
Hi Jolene,
What is it that makes you passionate about bringing your baby into the world at home?
I think that’s wonderful that you are planning a natural birth! Your baby is lucky to have you
The first thing I would recommend is to remain strong in your beliefs, listen to and trust that familiar voice that you know as your own.You know the one that we too often ignore, the one that tells you that you are whole, you are perfect, you are masterfully designed, that you hold within you many treasures that are waiting to be called upon, amazing strength, love, determination, and pure potentiality.
Then I would start calling around and setting up interviews with all of the midwives you can find, find a really good one that you connect and feel completely comfortable with. The more natural, hands-off they are the better.
I’ve never heard of it being riskier because of how many kids you have, it doesn’t seem like your body would have any reason to stop working because of how many kids you have? I would definitely look deeper into it, when you interview the midwives make sure to ask them that question.
After you get a midwife then I would start looking into natural childbirth classes, depending on how far along you are. Prenatal Yoga is a must, really it helps so much! How far along are you?
