I believe that we are introduced to fear in our first moments of life…

Many times complications during childbirth can be directly attributed to the mother’s inability to control her fear.

“When your baby is inside you, your baby feels what you feel”

Your baby’s every fiber is interconnected with yours, and he or she is like a sponge, soaking up all of your emotions.

When you dwell on feelings of self doubt and fear you will be unconsciously sending your baby a message that he or she has a legitimate reason to be afraid of being born.

As well as causing emotional distress in your self and your baby, this can also create harmful physical responses in both you and your baby…

  • Your heart rate rises…
  • Breathing slows…
  • Blood pressure rises…
  • And the muscles in your body become tightly clenched.

This is where complications can begin.

Your body is trying to do its job, which is to move and stretch and open to allow your baby to come out.

Your job is to relax and let your body do its magic.

If you are clinched with fear you are actively fighting against your body and creating a struggle for your baby to be born.

Remember, you are the creator of your own experience and it is your choice what emotions you focus on and cultivate inside yourself.

You can choose to focus on positive thoughts and experience childbirth without fear.

When you allow fear to take over your thoughts your interpretation of reality can become skewed and create a self fulfilling prophecy.

The more you focus on your fear the more that fear grows, like a snowball.

Then your potential for a painless and calm childbirth without fear slips right out the window.

When you shift your focus away from your mind and all of it’s worries, and focus on allowing your body to do what it does best, you are giving your child a beautiful gift…

The gift of believing in herself.

By cultivating feelings of peace, calmness and love you will be sending your baby the message that she is welcome in our world…

You are telling her that she can feel free to come on out and join us.

“She doesn’t have to be afraid… she can do it, and she is capable of anything!”

In return she will be sharing that same message with you…

“You don’t have to be afraid, you can do it! You are capable of giving life!”

Practical Methods For Overcoming Fear

Here are some things you can do while pregnant and during labor to prepare for a natural childbirth without fear:

Tip 1 – Kick Fear Out

One method to get rid of fear is to be conscious of your emotions and don’t allow fear to take root in your mind.

If fear had a physical form it would look like a thick cloud of black smoke that blocks out the light of your potential and makes it impossible for you to breath.

Exercise:  Imagine your fear as a billowing plume of black smoke burning inside of you that, if left unattended, will soon fill up every crevice of your body. Now take a deep breath and exhale, blowing it all out and releasing it from your body.

Tip 2 – Address your Concerns and Move Past Them

Throughout your pregnancy, especially as you get closer to your baby’s arrival, be conscious of indentifying any fears and questions you may have before they have a chance to take root and affect you and your baby’s well being.

When new concerns and fears come up don’t ignore them or dwell on them.

Instead keep a log and write them down so you can find answers to them later.

This way you can put them out of your mind.

Tip 3 – Go Within to keep Fear Out

If you look deep within yourself you will find the truth that you already instinctively know how to give birth, just like all of the creatures of the earth do.

Even if you have never done it before, as a woman you already possess the ability to give birth naturally.

With this realization you can dismiss many fears that are based on self-doubt and trust in nature and your body’s natural ability.

Tip 4 – Release Negative Energy and Refill With Positive

There are many activities you can do while pregnant to promote the positive flow of energy within you, such as:

  • Yoga
  • Chi kung
  • Creating art
  • Walks in nature
  • Meditating
  • Swimming
  • Soaking up the sun…

If you engage in activities that build up positive energy throughout your pregnancy you can open yourself completely during labor and allow all of that beautiful energy to pour out…
